Alzheimer’s Patients Have Almost Immediate Brain Improvements after Eating 4 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil, Study Shows

Generally, the first thing that comes to our minds when we hear “dementia” is “memory loss”.  Of course, losing the memory is a serious negative effect of suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s, but people with such mental disorders also suffer from many other cognitive impairments that are making it very difficult to perform even the simplest daily activities. For the purpose of the study, the subjects were required to fast from 8 pm on the night prior the study. The researchers compared the effects of MCT with a placebo group.

The results of the study have shown an improved cognitive function in people who had consumed the MCT’s. Everyone who was subjected to MCT treatment performed better in a variety of memory and recall tests. Also, a blood test showed a significant increase in the levels of ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate (beta-OHB) just 90 minutes after the treatment. For those of you who don’t know, beta-hydroxybutyrate works to protect the brain from toxins and helps preserve neurons.

So, the medium-chain triglycerides not only improved the cognitive function in people who were suffering from a brain disorder, but they also helped protect the brain from toxins. What’s better, we can easily experience the amazing health benefits of MCT’s through a familiar natural ingredient.

Can Coconut Oil Help Prevent Dementia?

Coconut oil contains a whopping 62 percent of medium chain triglycerides, which makes it one of the best sources of MCT’s.

To fully replicate the results of the study mentioned above, a person that is suffering from dementia (or a healthy adult) should consume 4 tablespoons of coconut oil every day. This probably seems unmanageable at first glance, but if your start cooking with coconut oil instead of vegetable oils, or adding it to your smoothies, juices and even coffee, this amount will not look so unrealistic.

But, even with a smaller dosage, healthy adults can still experience an improvement in their cognitive function and reduce their risk of brain disorders like dementia and Alzheimer’s.

There are many causes of memory loss that can be reversed, like vitamin and mineral deficiencies, thyroid diseases, or sleep disorders.
